New students & FAQ

Most people that come to a class at Hot Yoga Ann Arbor have never tried yoga or Pilates before before, so don’t feel intimidated. It’s just stretching done in a heated room!

A few hot tips to keep in mind when coming to your first class:

  1. Arrive early. When coming in for your first time, arrive PROMPTLY 15-20 minutes before the start of class so you can receive a First Time Student Orientation. During Orientation you will fill out some basic paperwork and become acquainted with the studio. Lastly, the teacher will explain what to do inside of the yoga room during your first class. We welcome those currently on medication, with recent injuries or chronic conditions — just please let us know before class so we know how to best help you.
  2. Follow the lead. When you enter the yoga room, the mirrors will be in the front of the room. For your first class, place your mat towards the middle or back of the room so you have examples in front of you.
  3. Bring a towel. Use one of your bath towels to put on top of your mat. This soaks up your sweat and provides some cushion when we start floor postures.
  4. Do the best you can. It is only yoga, and you are only human. The only thing we ask of you on your first visit is to stay in the room for the whole 90 minutes, allowing your body to start to acclimate to the heat.
What should I bring to class

It is most important to just bring yourself to your first Hot Yoga Ann Arbor class, but we do recommend a few other things:

  • Yoga mat (we do offer mats for rent if you don’t have your own mat)
  • Water bottle
  • Shorts/tank top or whatever clothing you are comfortable wearing while sweating
  • Change of clothes for after class
  • 2 bath towels (one for class to put on top of your mat and one to shower with afterward)
I’m new to yoga, do I need to know anything about yoga to get started?

26 + 2 yoga is great for beginners! You don’t need to know anything about yoga because the instructors will guide you along the way with their dialogue. You just do what you can on that day.
